Bordallo Pinheiro. Each year Bordallo Pinheiro invites artists to reinterpret Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro’s iconic ceramic sardine, originally created in the XIX century. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this project, and I was invited to create a sardine celebrating this milestone. To me, these ceramic sardines are like winter flowers, providing color even when the world outside greys out during the colder months. I called this piece ’10 Springs’, and decorated the sardine with 10 flowers, one for each of the project’s 10 years. This sardine can be found at www.bordallopinheiro.com or at any Bordallo Pinheiro or Vista Alegre store.
